What is Pilates?

Pilates (pronounced "puh-LAH-teez") is a total body conditioning program developed by Joseph Pilates over 80 years ago. It has now become one of the most popular forms of exercise today. This Unique Wellness Program combines both stretching and strengthening exercises to achieve a balanced and healthy body.  Pilates incorporates the deepest abdominal muscle in every exercise to create a strong "Core" or center, to provide support for the rest of the body. Pilates embraces the "mind/body" connection.  It combines the Eastern philosophy of calmness, flexibility, and being centered or whole with the Western philosophy of muscle strength and movement. This Pilates approach of Movement with Awareness will produce strong, flexible bodies that move with ease and resist injury.

Many celebrities and elite athletes are enjoying the benefits of this extraordinary exercise method.  Pilates has even sparked the interest of the medical community especially with Physical Therapists and Orthopedists. This technique will successfully correct faulty movement patterns to rehabilitate clients with poor posture, neck, and low back pain, and can even prevent these problems from occurring in the first place.  Pilates will improve the way you sit, the way you stand, the way you move, and the way you breathe. Pilates will give you more energy to feel good in the body you are in.
